In the beginning, the world was bare. No green of the trees and its sibling flora. No blue of the infinite sky or the shining sea. No color of life at all. The world, named “Terra Genoa” by its sparse inhabitants, was as bare and hopeless as a wasteland. Rocks and sand, forever. The people of Terra Genoa strived as hard as they could to survive. To die meant losing everything one had. Though, to live meant having near to nothing. Desperate existences were they.
Horrible beasts ravaged the land; terrible, terrible monsters that treated the world as theirs to control. Horns, sharp as blades, with teeth the same, and innumerable. Their eyes could cause an ill man to die of shock with one glimpse. Their fur was like row upon row of arrows. They crumbled mountains in jest, and slaughtered to let off aggression. The people feared them, and lived every second constantly looking about, in case the creatures were near. Infants were born crying, and lived their entire lives doing the same.
One day, when the people seemed to have finally given up, having realized the futility of their lives, questioning the cosmos as to why they existed; why they were meant to suffer a life so destitute, some travelers wandered into their view. A caravan of “knights,” they called themselves. They named themselves after the night, claiming they struck back at the horrors of the world, instilling in those fiends the same fear one has of the dark. They were led by a woman, bearing the title “Kastell Alize.” “A Kastell is someone who will protect the people so dear to her. To see them fall prey to those beasts would mean her very heart would crumble to ash,” she told them, “I do not believe that these people; these poor souls; these dear children of mine should be destined to live as though they were dead. If it is truly so, then I will sooner cut down the universe itself than let it be.” The people were stirred by her words; no one had ever possessed such heroism. No one had ever shown such resolve, when there was no reason to try. For the first time in the history of the world, hope was born.
Alize and her party set off across the empty world in search of the beasts. She knew very well that the only true way to stop these monsters would be to strike fear into them at their very core. So, they traveled to find the mother of these creatures; to find the nest, and stop the birthing of them. They fought many battles; in the deserts; on the mountains; at day and at night.
They eventually reached their destination. At the end of the world, Alize found the nest of the beasts. With it was the mother of the creatures, as they had expected: The great dragon Tiamat. Covered in scales shining like bright silver, wings that spread so far they could cover the sky, eyes like the sun itself, and a body too gargantuan in size to fathom with mere imagination. That was Tiamat. It had a hatred for humans so blind and powerful that the sight of Alize and her friends caused Tiamat to release a wild blaze from its gullet, melting boulders and incinerating nearby offspring of it. But Alize still lifted her sword to Tiamat. “You don’t belong here! Not in this world! If there is only room for one people here—your children or mine—I will destroy you and all you are!”
A terrific battle was fought. Lives of man and beast alike were lost. In the end, Alize stood victorious, her sword deep in the back of the great Tiamat. The creature lay dying, attempting to crawl away from the Kastell. “No, Tiamat. If you are willing to torture my children their whole lives, you must give up your own when facing defeat,” Alize said, a stone gaze in her eyes. With that, she tore into the beast. Her sword traveled the whole of Tiamat’s back, and the dragon split open.
A miracle occurred. Upon Tiamat’s dissection, the entire universe sprung from its body. Everything that the world was lacking flew out; the green of the trees and its sibling flora; the blue of the infinite sky and shining sea; the color of life itself. The entire universe was hidden inside Tiamat all along; it had been hiding it from the people, and now it was all for them. Alize looked at this, and smiled. She had saved her children, and gave them the world.
Alize, upon returning to the people, was proclaimed the savior, and they pleaded that she be their leader. She accepted, and the term of “Kastell” earned its place in history.
