The sun was high in the sky, and Aiden was now soaked, her skin steaming and turning a bright orange. Her breath was uneven in a more aggitated way rather than anthything else. She sat on the banksand rolled around in the soft green grass. Trying hard to dry off as quickly as she could. It seemed to be only a matter of time before she would look like a brightly colored fruit. She rolled to her back and watched the sun slowly make it's way to set on lower Genoa. Aiden's petty coat was singed here and there and her leather corset was tattered and torn. Her hair was cropped in a boy style and was red as the sun. Her face was covered with small dark brown freckles and a dark bandage which covered one eye, her skin was but two shades lighter, with eyes that were an intense brown and streaks of an icey green near the pupil. Her dress was incredibly elaborate, but the only decoration was that of the sun exploding on the lower corner, spreading like wild fire to her hips where the peice of leather was wrapped tightly around her waist. Her boots were old handme downs and had obviously seen better days. Sitting next to Aiden was a scruffy looking dog named Mimzy. He had a coat of colors, with one blue eye and one eye exact to Aiden's. Her coat greatly resembled that of a watercolor forest fire, with darks and bright warm colors, he wagged his madded tail and pawed at his speckled face, teasing Aiden about her being wet. " Do not vex me, dog." said Aiden as she turned a darker shade of orange. To this point she had only been in her petty coat and a cloth wich was wrapped around her remaining torso. She walked further up the banks to find her soot covered clothes laying where she had left them. She picked up her dress and shook it as best she could, slipped it on over her head, and tied the back up. Then took the leather binding patted it and wrapped it tightly around her figureless waist... In short she looked like a fifteen year old crossdresser. She had a thin frame, and large hands ( in preportion) connected to incredibly tiny wrists. After putting on her dry clothes she ran around in circles in failing attempts to dry off. Mimzy simply sat in his place barking histaricly at the sight. After ten minutes or so she sat down. Her skin was now only slightly an abstract color. Aiden looked up into the sky and coughed, 'dust...', she thought. She rubbed her eyes and looked around at the place. " Perhaps I should go find this place, eh, Mimzy?" Aiden said in a sarcastic tone. She retrived a peice of paper from a leather bag covered in Kelar ( which was a fireprooth ointment). The yellow grease smelled of herbs and made the bag glitter in the sun. Aiden flicked the paper then looked at the dog, "ugh.. I hate rats! Just thinking about them makes me.. Makes me--" Her hair started to catch a flame. Mimzy barked as Aiden looked up, gave a slight squeek!, and tumbled back down to the bank where she dunked her head in. Mimzy barked in a laughing way. Aiden lifter her head out of the water, careful not to let it spread, "That poor sense of humour of yours is going to get you in a hell of a lot of trouble, dog.." Aiden sighed, as she held her head over the water to let her it dry. Thus stuck once again in another stupid situation.

Something lightly bumped against Aiden's head. Upon inspection, however, nothing caught her attention as suspicious. A few moments laiter there was another bump across her head, followed by the timmid steps of four tiny feet across her head. Within seconds, the water was teaming with rats the size of small dogs. Their tiny pointed ears twiched and turned, trying to relieve themselfs of water. The small heads that the ears were perched atop twisted eerily in all directions, giving the rats a 360 view of their surroundings. The rat on Aiden's head scurried halfway down her face, before giving a timmid sqeak and bounding off onto the soft grass.

She screamed as the rodents surried across the ground. Mimzy ran further and further up the bank, knowing exactly what was to happen next. Aiden stood up in a fit, screaming then bursting into flames which spread four to five feet away from her, killing some of the rats. She ran in circles frantically, the flame following her, clingling to her body. Mimzy barked from teh top of the hill, prancing in place; debnating on whether or not to run down there. He wasn't afraid of rats. After five or so minutes Mimzy ran back down the hill and herded the rats away from the shreiks and flames of Aiden. Poor Aiden ran around and around until all the rats were gone, finally tripping and falling into the water. Smoke and steam rose from where she was. Aiden was a good swimmer, she knew how to hold her breath for long periods of time, and currently she was pissed that she had burst into flames three times that morning. Mimzy herded the tiny bit of rats he had caught ( and were not to badly scroched) away, thus disappearing from Aiden. She just sat under the water pouting.

She could hold her breath no longer. She arose from the water as orange as any vibrant fruit, and shook her head to rid of the water. Aiden ran around and around, occaisionally rolling on the grass to dry off. By now she was covered in grass and mudd. "Mimzy!" Aiden called out. but to no avail. For her dog did not appear. She sighed and walked towards the town, stopping directly infront of the place. She sighed again. " This better be worth it.." Aiden said in her usual animated voice.

A loud crack[/i] resonated through the air, and clouds of dust exploded out of every crevice of the rickety old two story building.
"I told you to wait, but I guess tact is just another thing that you don't have!" "Hey, I got the job done, didn't I?!"
Multiple sharp snaps rang out, and the structure before Aiden shifted slightly to the left, releasing another burst of dust.
"You destroyed a good portion of Lower Genoa in your stupidity!" snap pop pop crack[/i] "Hey now, at least we got paid! Can't we just talk this--" "NO!" Crack pop SNAP[/i] In an extremely loud instant the second floor of the building became the first, as two bodies were swept to Aidens feet by a tide of debris. In unison, both Mary and Taylor glared up toward Aiden. "What do you want?!"

She looked down at both of them, not quite sure on how to respond to what had just happend. " I Got a job here...? And... I... maybe got the wrong place...." She looked at both of them again, " yeaaah.. I'll just go n--" As Aiden turned she tripped over Mary's leg, causing her to trip into the pile of dust with them. She sat up wide eyed and looked around, she put one hand infront of the two, hoisting herself onto her knees. Aiden's fingers were all burning with blue and yellow flames. She looked at the two for a sec and then said, " Is this... The Rats Nest guild..?"

Despite being covered from head to foot in ash and dust, Taylor tried her best to show Aiden up, "Yes, this is the rats nest, and just because you got a little piece of paper with you doesn't mean you're hired..." She shot a cold glance at Mary before continuing, "...Anyway, since we do need help around here, I guess you're hired. You can start by cleaning up this mess, welcome to The--"
At that point the balcony window opened, revealing a very flustered Big Mama Dee. "Actually", she said, glaring at Taylor and Marry, "Thanks to you two I just lost my lucky casserole pan!" Mama Dee's eyes shot to Aiden, "If you'd be so kind, deary, I'd like you to go with these two into the sewers to make sure they don't cause any trubble...".
Throughout Mama Dee's speech Taylor had slowly become more and more flush, until finally she burst. "The sewers?! We're supposed to go get your pan from the sewers?!"
"Is there a problem?" Dee asked, his face showing signs of mock kindness.
For a moment Taylor wanted to ask how the squabble between Marry and herself had caused Big Mama Dee to loose her prized cooking pan to the sewers, but instantly thought better of it.
"That's what I thought" Said big mama. "Anyway dears, don't be gone too long. Oh, and by the way...", she said, turning to Aiden, "Welcome to The Rat's Nest!!" Big Mama Dee struck a pose that slightly looked to Taylor like a lame water foul. "And THAT is how it's done!!" Said Dee, before strutting back into the guild, and slamming the doors behind her.

Marry waited until he was sure that Dee was safely out of earshot before speaking. "What was she doing in the bathroom with the pan anyway...?" For a second, he could have sworn he heard someone yell something about baking, but it was too faint to make out.
"Anyway", Marry continued, "I'm Marry Llama Onnet, professional mercenary!" Onnet stood and brushed his shoulder off in an over extravagant manor. A sigh from Taylor suddenly brought Marry back to reality, "oh, and this is my co-guildie Taylor...". He gestured to Taylor halfheartedly, before returning his interest to Aiden, "And what might your name be?"

During the past conversation Taylor had gotten to her feet, dusted herself off, and began to wrap her fingers against her side impatiently. Upon hearing Llama's question, she snapped. "ENOUGH!!" Yelled Taylor, "I'm going to the sewers". Her heel propelled her 180 degrees, then she began to walk toward a dark passage directly behind the guild hall.

Aiden slowly stood up, keeping her eyes fixed on the window Big Moma Dee had come through. She looked down in time enough to see her torched fingers singeing her skirt, at which point she squeaked and put her hand halfway in her mouth, at least enough to put out the small flames. "Oh.. I really shouldn't be go--....Erm... My name's Aiden...?" By this time barking could be heard off in the distance. Mimzy came running up and halted to his haunches just at her hip. Touching his nose to her side, panting. " And... This is Mimzy. He's a Mackenzi River Inuit...He herds things.. And sniffs things out. a smart....dog..." She held her hand down to Mimzy's withers and slowly started towards the sewers. Reaching into her slimey bag for a cloak and head cloth. She glanced at Mary then towards Taylor. " I.. um.. is this how all the welcomes are here..? I mean I've had a few....un welcome..welcomes.. But that was after--" Aiden's eyes widened slightly, thinking back upon something. Then absent mindedly said, " So how are you?"

Somewhere in the streets of Lower Genoa, a young man was running with a coin in his hand, and a grin on his face. He went by his given name, Sodom, and this was the first time he had felt some relief in a while. "Oh thank you, thank you, thank you, whoever is looking down on me!"
Having been in pecuniary difficulties for the past year, he couldn't help but smile, knowing that his last job had just earned him a rather uncommon coin. It was a Genoan beedle, sporting a mugshot of the previous, late Kastell. The beedle was worth five hundred gekkos, which would easily pay for his rent this month.
He soon stopped running, too tired to keep on. "Gagh...need--water!" he said, spotting the waiter of a rather cheap cafe (this was Lower Genoa, mind you) across the street. "Excuse me! I'd like to order a drink!" He ran across the street attempting to catch the attention of the waiter. "I said, I'd like to ord--" He was immediately cut off by a large soaked rodent escaping in a hurry across the street from a cat, tripping him and causing him to fall.
"Ow. Ow ow ow. I...ow. I didn't know owlynx rats were seen up here. Why was it wet?" He talked to himself a lot, but it didn't bother him much. He soon remembered about his order, and picked up the coin he'd...dropped? "Wh--where'd it go!?" Rolling down the street, the coin sped, as though it was in an affair, and running to the docks to be reunited with its forbidden lover. Sodom chased after it all he could, but it was for nothing, as the token fell through a sewer grate, claiming victory. Sodom dropped to the ground.
"YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS!!" His long, curly hair fell in front of his face. "I had to clean twenty halls for that!!" he screamed, failing to notice that now he was gathering attention. But there was no way he would let this sense of relief get away. Not this time. And so he raced off to find a way into the sewer.

Cristofori Bartolomeo di Napoli walked down the gangplank onto Genoa, nodded curtly to the captain of the ship which had carried him there (who nodded back equally sourly), and shouldered his very light knapsack. He wrinkled his nose at the stinking fish-smell and started walking inland. He was unremarkable in appearance, although thoughtful observers, noticing his habit of taking long detours upon sighting the uniform of the Genoan Guard, might have wondered if they had perhaps seen those direct green eyes and black hair in a different context - perhaps an unflattering sketch on one of the city's notice boards. However, thoughtful observers in that part of town were rather scarce, and so no one paid much attention to Cristofori as he wove his way around street vendors and musicians, looking for an inexpensive place to spend the night or get a meal.

Mary looked at Aiden, slightly dumbstruck. "I...er....Yes. I--I mean no, this isn't how things usually work...I think. I'm fine"
He glanced fleetingly at Taylor, who was quickly fading from sight. "Come on", Onnet commanded. With that he grabbed Aiden's wrist, pulling her along to catch up to Taylor.

" Oh, I really--" She sighed, yanking her feeble wrist free. Aiden glared slightly towards Mary, then wrapped her her head in a royal blue cloth (which was incredibly rare to come by), and wrapped her hands with a seprate peice of the same cloth. " Mimzy, go to the other side of the sewers and start looking from there. Meet up in the center?" Aiden asked as if to a child. Mimzy barked and headed off in another direction. Aiden trotted to catch up to Mary's side and remarked, " ya know... I wonder if he understands me sometimes. I mean... Most people baby talk to their dogs... I wonder if it makes a difference. " She paused, then dismissed it with, " Oh well, I'm just projecting..." She silenced herself almost immediately after they had caught up to Taylor. Unsure how to act or what to say. And as they reached the sewer entrance Aiden squeaked in an inaudible voice, " Is now a bad time to mention I'm H2O intolerant...?" She stood offish to the side, keeping her eyes fixed to the ground. Yet keeping her head up in some proud manor which could have been still some of her memories seeping through.

Catching sight of a military uniform in the distance, Cristofori dodged down a nearby alley, stepping over a rotting pile of who-knew-what.
Lower Genoa is famous, of course, for its tangled web of sidestreets. Three left turns, four right turns, two ramshackle staircases and one fruitless U-turn later, Cristofori was lost. He sighed thoughtfully, dropped the hood of his cloak, and ran his hand through his hair. "By Azrael," he muttered, pulling his hood back up, "Just my accursed luck." He started walking again in what he was pretty sure was the wrong direction.
